The Kromfohrländer is a small to medium-sized dog (between 38 and 46 cm), well built and compact (between 9 and 16 kg). It has a proportionate head with a slightly rounded skull and a medium length muzzle. Its eyes are medium sized and oval in shape, and its ears are medium sized, droopy and well covered with hair.

The coat of the Kromfohrländer is a distinct characteristic of the breed. There are two varieties of coat: short-haired and long-haired. Both varieties have a dense, smooth and shiny coat. Common coat colors include fawn, red and black, often with white markings on the chest and feet.

In terms of personality, the Kromfohrländer is known to be a lively, friendly and loyal dog to its family. They generally get along well with children and other pets if properly socialized from a young age. He has a cheerful and enthusiastic temperament which makes him an excellent family companion.
