Its fur is medium in length and requires regular maintenance to stay in good condition. Males typically stand between 59 and 61.5 centimeters at the withers, while females measure between 56.5 and 59 centimeters. The ideal weight for an adult male is around 27 to 36 kilograms, and for a female, 25 to 32 kilograms.
The Flat-Coated Retriever is traditionally used as a hunting dog, particularly for retrieving waterfowl due to its love for swimming and its ability to work in challenging conditions. Its friendly nature and intelligence also make it suitable as a therapy and assistance dog. Although it is not the best fit for a guard dog role due to its friendly temperament, it is often chosen as a companion dog for its loyalty and affection. As a sporting dog, it excels in agility and obedience competitions.
