The Bangkaew is a dog breed originating from Thailand, specifically from the village of Bangkaew in the Phitsanulok province. This dog is known for its loyalty, intelligence, and protective nature. Traditionally raised as a guard dog, it is now also appreciated as a family companion.
The Bangkaew is a medium-sized dog with a well-proportioned and muscular body. It has a triangular head with almond-shaped eyes, typically dark brown, which express alertness and liveliness. The ears are small, erect, and triangular in shape. The tail is bushy and usually carried curled over the back. Its overall appearance is reminiscent of a Spitz, with dense fur and a sturdy build.
Males typically measure between 40 and 50 cm at the shoulder, while females measure between 35 and 45 cm. Their weight ranges from 14 to 16 kg, with well-developed muscles and a solid bone structure. Although medium in size, they are very resilient and capable of sustaining long periods of physical activity.
The Bangkaew has a double coat, dense and waterproof, suited to the varied climatic conditions of its native region. The undercoat is soft and thick, while the outer coat is longer and coarser, providing protection from the elements. The coat color is often bi-colored or tri-colored, with combinations of white, black, brown, or gray. Regular brushing is recommended to prevent the buildup of dead hair and to keep the skin healthy.
