Pharaoh Hound

The Pharaoh Hound is a breed of dog originating from the island of Malta. The Pharaoh Hound is unique because of its distinctive physical characteristics and its historical connection to ancient Egypt. It is called the "Pharaoh's dog" because of its resemblance to dogs depicted in ancient Egyptian art. As a companion, it brings a combination of grace, elegance and affection to its owners.

The Pharaoh Hound is medium to large in size. Males generally measure between 56 and 63 cm at the shoulder, while females measure between 53 and 61 cm. The average weight generally varies between 20 and 25 kg.

The coat is short, smooth and shiny. The base color is red, often with white markings on the chest, feet and tip of the tail.

The head is fine and well sculpted, with oval amber to dark brown eyes. The ears are medium sized, broad at the base, and carried erect when the dog is attentive.

The Pharaoh Hound is known for its friendly, intelligent and lively nature. He is an energetic dog, but also calm and gentle. He has a strong affinity with his family and can be reserved towards strangers. He has a great aptitude for learning and is often described as loyal. It can be used as a hunting dog, but it also adapts well to family life.
